Capture what you saw. Keep it yours.

Quikap freezes the screen before it shows a thing, so the capture is exactly what you saw. QuikapStudio edits on top of it and never changes the original. Both write to your own disk and to nowhere else.

Signed updates No cloud, no tracking

An illustration of the QuikapStudio window. On the left, the library lists recent captures. On the right, a capture is open on the canvas with an arrow, a callout and a redacted region as layers, and a toolbar under it shows the zoom and the size of the source.
Two programs

A capture utility that must never fail, and an editor that can afford to be rich

They are separate processes and separate downloads. They meet only through a versioned local protocol and files on your disk, so one can be updated, or fail, without the other.

Quikap captures

Stills of a display, a window or a region; scrolling and panoramic captures; recordings with system audio, a microphone and the cursor's clicks. Small, resident, answered the instant you press the key.

QuikapStudio edits

Arrows, callouts, step badges, blur and secure redaction on a tiled canvas that treats a huge panorama like a small screenshot. A library of what you captured; trim and split for recordings.

Local-first, by construction

No account, no upload, no telemetry. A capture is a folder of ordinary files on your disk. The only things either program sends anywhere are described, in full, on one page.

The frozen screen

The overlay comes second, so it is never in the picture

When you press the hotkey, Quikap snapshots every display first. Only then does it draw the overlay you select with. What you select is cut from that snapshot, never captured a second time: an open menu stays open, a tooltip stays put, and nothing of the overlay ends up in the capture.

  • Crosshair, dimensions and a pixel magnifier; the window under the pointer is outlined
  • Mixed-DPI monitors and negative desktop coordinates are handled as a matter of course
  • Escape cancels with nothing left behind

How the two programs work

Non-destructive

Every edit is a layer on the original, except the one that must not be

A document in QuikapStudio is the original capture plus what you put on it. Undo is always there, and an export is a new file. Secure redaction is the deliberate exception: it removes the pixels it covers from the export, and the export is tested to make sure they cannot be recovered. Blur and pixelate are visual effects; redaction is not.

  • A tiled canvas with mip levels: a very large panorama never needs one contiguous bitmap
  • Coordinates stay in source space; rendering converts to device pixels late
Updates

An update is trusted because it is signed, not because of where it came from

Every release carries a manifest signed with the Quikap release key. Each program checks that signature against a key compiled into it, then checks the installer's size and SHA-256 against the signed manifest. A server, a mirror or a network in between can refuse you an update. None of them can hand you a forged one.

  • Only a newer version is ever offered: an old release cannot be replayed to take you backwards
  • Each program reads its own channel; a release of the other program is never applicable
  • Nothing downloads until you agree, and you can skip a version

The update channel in detail

Built for

The capture you make a hundred times a day

Keyboard first

A hotkey to capture, keys to nudge and size the selection, exact coordinates when you want them.

Longer than the screen

Scrolling and panoramic capture, from pixels alone or driven through the page itself, with a confidence you can read.

Record with telemetry

Cursor and clicks are kept apart from the pixels, so they can be shown, styled or left out when you export.

Plain files

A capture is a folder: a PNG or a video, JSON and CBOR. Open it with anything.

Getting started

From a license key to a first capture

  1. Sign in

With your Exprezoe account, or with a license key you were given. One license covers both programs.

  2. Download and verify

Download the installers and check each SHA-256 against the one shown.

  3. Activate

Enter the key in each program once. Each installation takes one seat, which you can give back at any time.

  4. Capture

Press the hotkey. The screen freezes, you choose, and the capture opens in QuikapStudio.

Questions

Asked before you have to ask

What is Quikap?

A capture utility: screenshots, scrolling and panoramic captures, screen recordings with audio and cursor telemetry, taken from a frozen snapshot of the screen so that what you select is what you saw. It stays small and fast, and it writes every capture to your own disk as an artifact that other programs can read.

What is QuikapStudio?

The editor for those captures: annotations, callouts, step badges, blur and secure redaction on an infinite, tiled canvas; a library of what you captured; a timeline for recordings; export. Edits never change the original capture.

Why two programs?

Capture must be instant and must not fail; editing is rich and changes often. They are separate processes and separate downloads, and they talk only through a versioned local protocol and files on your disk. One can be updated without the other.

Where do my captures go?

To your own computer, and nowhere else. There is no cloud, no account to create, no upload. A capture is a folder of files that Studio opens; you can also open it with anything else.

Which platforms?

Windows 10 and 11 first. macOS and Linux (Wayland) are designed for and not built. Nothing on this site has been shown for a platform other than the one it names.

How do updates reach me?

Each program checks this site's channel for itself, verifies the release's signature against a key built into it, downloads the installer when you agree, and checks its size and SHA-256 before running it. It never installs an older version.

How do I get a license?

One license covers both programs. Licenses are issued by a person at Exprezoe while the products are in early access; there is no sign-up on this site.

Is there anything to download yet?

Not yet. Both programs are being built, and the downloads page says so until a release is published. Nothing on this site claims a feature that is not in a release.

Quikap and QuikapStudio are being built

Nothing is released yet, and this site will say so until a release is published. Licenses are issued to teams we can support well while the products take shape; one license covers both programs.
